Biography |
From the High Desert in CA, he is probably the most confusing and the most confused person he himself has ever met. He spends his pastime staring at the ceiling, pondering his motivations, and reciting that one famous soliloquy from Hamlet. His interests include the human condition and fine acting (which does not include works by Jack Nicholson). To him, Flying Samaritans not only serves as an opportunity for students interested in medicine but also those interested in public health, international involvement, humanitarian aid, cultural diversity, and non-profit administration. “My goal this year is to involve more members in the decision-making process, developing a more engaged membership and activating our members to take ownership of their organization, and to challenge our officers, designing a standard of transparency and accountability for future administrations.” After college, he hopes to attend a school in osteopathic medicine and will need all the luck he can get to be accepted. If he gets rejected, “Well, I could always become a substitute teacher; that sounds somewhat less depressing.” |

Biography |
Hello my name is Cindy N. Hernandez Soto, and I am the Clinic Coordinator. I’m currently a second year and I am majoring in Biological Sciences. My goal is to become a reconstructive surgeon who travels to underdeveloped countries and provides free surgeries to those who have been born with birth deformities. As for Flying Samaritans, I hope to bring more members who have not had the opportunity to go on one of our amazing trips to El Hongo, Mexico. I want all our members to see firsthand; just what we do and how we have such a huge impact in the life’s of the wonderful people of El Hongo. |

Name |
Katherine Tsai |

Publicity Chair |

|
Major |
Biochemistry |
|
|
Biography |
Having taken five years of Spanish in Middle School and then High School, working with underprivileged Spanish-speaking populations in a medical setting was an opportunity that Katherine had always yearned for. She has always believed that insufficient medical attention is a prevalent problem and regions close to home are the best starting points to alleviate these problems. Therefore, she was ecstatic upon learning about and joining Flying Samaritans in December 2010. Working closely with the Fundraising Chair, as the 2011-2012 Publicity Chair, she hopes to share her enthusiasm with the UCR community and bring in more supporters by using different forms of media: making resources and information about the club readily available. She actively updates the Facebook page, shares an introductory video to FS she helped create, welcomes new ideas, and loves to hear input from members or people interested in joining our organization. Lastly, she plans on applying to Medical School but is still undecided on a field or specialty due to the ample opportunities that the medical field offers. One thing is for certain, she wants to be a part-time physician volunteer who improves the lives of people in impoverished communities through education and healthcare |
